The Most Beautiful Summer Hike in Whistler, BC

We were so excited to get out and explore all that beautiful British Columbia had to offer. We sifted through lots of incredible trails on AllTrails before our trip, and we decided upon Overlord, Lakeside, & Decker Loop in Whistler, BC. We knew we wanted to explore Whistler and take their incredible Gondolas. And just to get to this hike, you had to (well more like got to) take 2 gondola rides just to get up to the trail! We were in. You had us at two gondola rides…

Or at any guest services location at Whistler Blackcomb ticket booths (which is where we bought ours). They were about $50 US Dollars per person. I know, I know. EXPENSIVE. But, it is definitely so worth it. Even if you do not want to hit up any trails there are so many things to do with this ticket and once you get to the top. The views alone from the gondola are worth every single penny. Trust us. With this purchase it includes the 2 gondola rides. The first gondola is the Blackcomb gondola which takes you up to access the Peak 2 Peak Gondola, multiple chairlifts including one that takes you to their new Cloudraker Skybridge (which we unfortuanately did not have time to do but DO IT because it is still on our list…I mean look at how epic this looks…https://www.whistlerblackcomb.com/explore-the-resort/activities-and-events/summer-activities/peak-2-peak-360-experience/peak-suspension-bridge.aspx) as well as restaurants and bars that overlook the mountains. Not to mention it takes you up to a pretty incredible view. From the Blackcomb gondola, head over to the Peak 2 Peak Gondola which is exactly what it sounds like. It links you between 2 majestic mountain peaks. The view is insanse.

As soon as you step off of the Peak 2 Peak gondola, your adventure begins. Veer right and you’re on the trail. The most beautiful trail we had ever seen. The advantages of getting to take 2 gondola rides is that you get to bypass a ton of elevation to get to this heaven on Earth. I kept thinking to myself…this is what evergreen and wildflower dreams are truly made of. Or I tell people in a less magical way “IT’S BASICALLY EVERGREEN AND MOUNTAIN LANDSCAPES ON STEROIDS, MAN!” But in all honesty, this has been our most favorite hike we have ever done. Majestic mountains, wildflower fields, icy blue lakes, wildlife. It had it all. And made it even more special was that we got to celebrate 8 years of being together in one of the most magical places we have ever been.

We gave this one a difficult rating since because it is so high up in elevation, it makes the air a lot thinner and makes it harder to breathe when your lungs are working hard to hike up almost 1800 ft in elevation. But take your time. Enjoy the scenery and wildlife. And if you get too tired, you can always just turn back around! Even though you definitely won’t want to because of how beautiful it is. We rewarded ourselves after this difficult hike with cocktails and french fries down at the main strip of Whistler at a bar. And then we treated ourselves to end the day with a relaxing trip to a Spa in downtown Whistler where we soaked in hot and cold pools and melted our muscle aches away in the sauna.
